One of the first things you will have to ask yourself is where you will be placing your dining table. A round table curiously seems to draw all elements that surround it towards it, thereby anchoring itself (and the chairs) visually more than a rectangular table would. It also takes up less space.
As mentioned, rectangular tables present a certain advantage in terms of capacity that round- and square ones do not. Imagine having to place all the diners to be seated at this elongated table at a round one – you’d have to have a pretty big round table!. For big dinner parties, it’s best to opt for an elongated/rectangular table, as you get more space for chairs and guests.
For a more interesting and unusual style of dining furniture, rustic bench seating should absolutely be considered, as it offers a beautifully unique aesthetic. Easy to combine with regular chairs, for a little diversity, bench seats are ideal for busy family homes, where the evening meal is considered to be a cherished moment of reflection and interaction. Children always enjoy a more fun style of furniture and with a bench seat, there's always room for one more guest.
Finally, we had to lavish some well deserved praise on farmhouse dining chairs, as they naturally exude a certain homely charm that is impossible to resist. Usually made from simple pine and with an unfussy design, a coat of shabby chic pastel paint and a coat of furniture wax can really make them come alive. Tie-on cushion pads complete the look and add an extra level of comfort as well.
